Meet Lucy who first joined Little Music Stars as a teacher. She loved the brand so much that she decided to buy a music franchise with them and become her own boss. The increased income and greater control over her working life has seen Lucy go from strength to strength. Read her story here including her top tips and advice about becoming a music franchise owner.
With a degree in Performing Arts and having worked previously as a dance teacher, I was employed as a teacher for Little Music Stars for 5 years. This was the perfect job for me, as it combined my love for working with young children and the performing arts. Becoming a franchisee seemed like a natural progression for me. I already taught in my territory, so I knew the quality of what I would be buying into. I was ready for a new challenge and wanted to be my own boss. Having 3 children of my own, I felt owning the franchise would work well around family life and provide me with a better income than being a teacher.
As I already knew a lot about the company, it was more the business side of things I needed to learn more about. I met with the franchisor who went through everything in detail.
I knew Little Music Stars was right for me as I believe the content of the classes are of a really high quality. Having taught them myself I already I knew that parents responded well to the sessions I didnβt feel the need to look at any similar franchises.
I used savings to fund buying the franchise, with the intention of recouping the money over the first few years.
I would say the most important thing when buying a franchise is to choose something that you are passionate about. It is hard work but so rewarding! I wouldnβt have known where to begin if I was starting a business on my own, so found the franchise route gave me the chance to be my own boss, with the support there if I needed it.
It feels very different owning the business to being an employee. I love being involved in the whole process, from emailing a potential customer, to planning the classes and then teaching the sessions and getting positive feedback. It is so rewarding seeing your own business grow and knowing the parents and children love coming to your classes. As a mother of 3 young children, it is hard to juggle it all, but I feel it does work well around having a family as you can chose your own working hours. I would definitely recommend it, it’s one of the best decisions I ever made.
