Franchisor Interview

Name: LAURA CROSS
Role: FOUNDER AND FRANCHISOR
We interviewed Laura about how the business got started and what inspired her to build a unique new STEM franchise offering. Here she shares what makes an ideal franchisee and the sorts of qualities that will ensure someone is well suited to taking on an Inventors & Makers franchise. Laura also gives details about a fantastic financial incentive currently available.
How has it grown since then?
The sessions quickly took off, with schools booking our sessions up to a year in advance and after-school club spaces selling out within minutes. Before I knew it I had a permanent member of staff running sessions too and booking requests coming in from all over the country.
During Covid we went online with our sessions which helped us to grow the business both nationally and internationally and we now have thousands of teachers around the UK and the world who receive our free STEM Hero emails and resources every single week.
Weโve also won multiple awards for our sessions and the business as a whole.
What makes an ideal franchisee for your franchise?
Weโre looking for qualified and experienced teachers who are comfortable leading sessions with children from early years right up to Year 6.
You donโt need to be an expert in STEM or engineering at all as weโll give you all the training and plans, but you should be excited to learn and not afraid to have a go.
Weโll provide all the sales and marketing materials and processes done for you, and will give you all the support you need to run a business for the first time. You need to be self-motivated, organised and tenacious and have a can-do attitude to getting things done.
Youโll be part of our very small team as we are currently recruiting for our first group of founding franchisees so we want to make sure we can get on and work together, while also having fun of course!
Tell us about the financial side of things.
The STEM industry is a premium industry and youโre able to charge higher prices for your workshops and clubs in schools and nurseries. With commitment and dedication youโll be able to grow a financially rewarding business that fits around your lifestyle too.ย Weโd be happy to walk you through the financials so you can get a better idea of how it might look for you.
For our founding franchisees weโre offering a huge 50% discount on the initial investment charge as youโll be helping to shape the business for future franchisees. We are of course incredibly invested in the success of these founding franchisees and will be offering unparalleled personal support, training and mentoring as you grow your business.
How flexible is your franchise opportunity?
As a franchisee you work for yourself and create your own schedule. You might decide to work part time, take days off when you want to, or enjoy term time holidays. Ultimately, you can make your hours work for your family and, most importantly, take back your evenings and weekends, leaving you able to put yourself and your family first.
Your work influences the pay you take home so you see direct results of the time you choose to put into your work and can feel motivated and proud of the business youโve grown yourself.
Of course on top of this, as a franchisee youโre your own boss and can dictate your own workload. If you want to do your desk based work in the evenings or from a local coffee shop, or even in your pyjamas, thatโs up to you.
What kind of training and support do you provide?
Youโll receive comprehensive onboarding and training to help you hit the ground running, including online training from your own home, in-person training with us in head office, and coming with us to some of our sessions to see how they work first-hand.
Weโll also provide ongoing personal support and mentoring to help you grow your business faster. As one of our group of founding franchisees this support will be unparalleled as we are invested in the success of your business as much as you are.
Fill in the form below to request franchise information from Inventors and Makers. You will also be added to our monthly newsletter database, which you can opt out of at anytime.
