Franchisee Case Study

Rhythm Time childrens music franchise opportunity UK franchisee case study with Anneka

Name: ANNEKA HURST

Territory: COVENTRY, RUGBY AND THE SURROUNDING AREA

Start Date: SEPTEMBER 2023

Meet Anneka who first got to know the Rhythm Time brand and ethos by attending classes with her own young children. After a successful teaching career, Anneka was seeking a more flexible career opportunity. When her local branch of Rhythm Time came up for resale, Anneka jumped at the chance and has never looked back!

My daughter was about to start school, and I had just returned to teaching after my second maternity leave. I felt it was crucial to have flexibility in my working hours to spend quality time with both of my little ones while they were still small. Purchasing the franchise would allow me to gain the time and flexibility I desired while also enabling me to use the skills Iโ€™d developed in my 14 years as a teacher. It was the first time I felt truly excited about something, and I could see how it could work with our family life. I carefully weighed the pros and cons and decided this was the right path for us.

I attended Rhythm Time classes with my daughter and saw how much she benefited from them. I truly believed in the vision and ethos of the Rhythm Time brand. Purchasing a resale meant I had income coming in straight away. I was reassured by the amount of information provided by Head Office as part of my due diligence. I had the opportunity to speak to two very friendly and helpful existing franchisees, who gave me an excellent idea of what life would be like owning my own franchise. Their insights and positive experiences solidified my decision. I was excited about the opportunity ahead of me, and it all felt it was meant to be.

I was very lucky that a family member was able to lend me the money to purchase my franchise. If this wasnโ€™t possible, I would have considered applying for a business loan. I also saved some of the money from my final wages from my teaching job, ensuring I had some capital already in the business.

I recommend asking lots of questions. There is a lot of legal jargon which can look quite scary, but asking questions can often clarify things. I had a solicitor review the sales agreement and franchise agreements before I signed them. They helped me to understand the key points within the agreements and I was able to gain additional clarification from the directors at Head Office. This gave me peace of mind when signing the final documents. The Directors had supported me through a very thorough due diligence process, so I felt informed and well-prepared at each stage.

If youโ€™re looking to purchase a franchise, my first piece of advice is to choose a company that aligns with your interests and values. You will be investing time, money, and yourself into your business, so itโ€™s crucial to choose something that excites you and that you are passionate about.

Do your research; find out everything you can about the business and speak to current franchisees to get a real-life perspective of running your own franchise. Donโ€™t be afraid to ask as many questions as needed to be fully informed about the financial, legal, and practical commitments involved in purchasing and running the business. Once you find the right fit, donโ€™t be afraid to take the next step. I am so glad that I did.
